We have 12 different locations across North America in three different segments of the pulp and paper industry (Paper, Fiber and Recovery). Notably in De Pere, Wisconsin, Breakeyville (Quebec region), and the Montreal region, serving a multitude of customers throughout America.

YOUR MANDATE

The incumbent will have the responsibility to manage all tactical sustainability projects at Sustana as part of the Sustainability Team. The person will support the Director of Sustainability in order to build the sustainability function and creating a long-term, commercially focused, and internally communicative sustainability strategy. Also, she/he will lead the ESG Technical Working Group to measure, report on, and improve the sustainability performance of Sustana.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director of Sustainability, the incumbent will be a key player in various communications and sustainability information calculation processes and will be involved in numerous projects across our different sites. More specifically:

  • Work closely with members of the ESG committee to develop and implement our sustainability strategies and plans.
  • Lead and/or support the implementation of our low-carbon transition plan and various decarbonization initiatives.
  • Manage our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory.
  • Support product life cycle assessments and circularity initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Social Impact to ensure that climate and nature strategies and initiatives address social impact issues (e.g., environmental justice, human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion).
  • Lead and/or support sustainability risk assessments (e.g., biodiversity).
  • Translate high-level targets and objectives into operational measures, track and manage initiative delivery timelines, and communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the development of Sustana’s annual external sustainability report and quarterly internal ESG reports on climate and nature-related topics.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor degree in a field related to environmental science, climate, or another sustainability-related field.
  • Experience managing corporate GHG emissions inventories in accordance with corporate and value chain standards of the GHG Protocol.
  • Detailed expertise in Nature/Biodiversity risk analysis and management.
  • Proven track record in developing low-carbon transition plans and setting climate change mitigation targets.
  • Excellent understanding of the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and experience conducting climate risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of risk and opportunity assessments related to nature (e.g., TNFD and Natural Capital Protocol).
  • Experience with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTI) is an added value
  • Experience with renewable energy procurement and carbon markets is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Experience in the paper, fiber, and packaging industry is an asset.
