Aaron Ling, Sustana’s Sustainability Director, discusses Sustana’s latest Gold Medal awarded by EcoVadis, the largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, recognizing Sustana for its continuous commitment to ESG and sustainability goals.

In December 2023, Sustana was honored with the prestigious Gold medal from EcoVadis, the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. This accolade, which recognizes us as being in the top 5% of companies rated, is not merely a recognition of our work, but a testament to our dedication to exceeding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments and sustainability goals.

The Gold medal is a moment of pride for Sustana and underscores the essence of our Sustana Sustainability Report, which illustrates our principles of practicing what we preach. These directives drive our core mission, to not just sell paper and fiber, but be a clean materials company that works in partnership with customers and partners to develop circular solutions built on a solid commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement.

We view sustainability as an impact goal as well as central to the growth of our business. The EcoVadis Gold medal is a great external validation of Sustana’s internal ESG efforts, but we are also using this as a benchmark. Utilizing this as an opportunity to do a gap analysis on the areas we can actively push and improve on to be even more sustainable.

At Sustana, we understand that sustainability is an evolving journey, requiring perpetual growth and improvement to consistently outpace the advancing benchmark of sustainability excellence. While this recognition reflects our commitment to sustainability, it also serves as a barometer and ladder, enabling us to continuously measure and elevate our sustainability practices.

As we endeavor to lead by example, we aim to inspire more companies towards sustainable business practices, recognizing that the goalposts of sustainability will continue to advance. This dynamic landscape motivates us to remain at the forefront of sustainability, attracting prospects and partners who share our values, thereby fueling our growth.

Looking ahead, Sustana is focused on forging and expanding partnerships that contribute to the sustainability cause and developing innovative circular solutions. Our collaboration with customers who have specific sustainability goals and targets is a testament to our commitment. Through the upcoming update of our Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) for our EnviroLife fiber and Enviro paper grades by Q2 2024, based on ISO standards, we aim to provide our customers with the tools to measure the environmental impact of using our paper and fiber products on their own footprint.

As signatories to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), we are diligently working on our forthcoming Sustainability Report. This report will detail our commitments, progress, and support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting our commitment to sustainability as a core principle that guides our mission to make a meaningful impact on the planet.

As we see it, our EcoVadis Gold medal is more than a recognition of our work to date; it is a catalyst for continuous improvement and a beacon guiding our journey towards sustainability excellence. As we advance, we remain dedicated to innovating, collaborating, and leading the way in sustainable business practices, ensuring that sustainability remains at the heart of all we do, for the betterment of our planet and future generations.
